If you’re anything like me, then you love a good tv series. Last year actress and comedian, Quinta Brunson, debuted the series Abbot Elementary on ABC and Hulu platforms. The show has gotten high ratings and positive feedback from critics. On September 12th,, the show received its first Emmy awarded to Sheryl Lee Ralph who plays veteran school-teacher,  Barbara Howard.

When Ralph’s name was called as the winner for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, she appeared to be in astonishment and needed to be led onto the platform by her fellow Abbott cast members.

When she arrived, she took a few extra seconds before starting her acceptance speech with the song. “To everybody who has ever, ever, had a dream and thought your dream wasn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t come true, I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like, this is what striving looks like, and don’t you ever, ever give up,” the singer remarked after the song. She thanked her husband and kids for being in her “corner,” as well as fellow Abbott Elementary cast member Quinta Brunson, who was the one to approach her about the

A standing ovation and loud cries of approval were given by everyone in the crowd as Ralph thanked all of her “friends” who had voted for her and raised her Emmy in the air. Ralph gave this explanation backstage: “I’ve been singing that song for years. I consider myself to be a woman of color and an artist. I belong to an extinct species. I don’t, however, sing any victim songs. I am a female. I’m a creative. Find your voice and use it appropriately. I’m the tiny 5-year-old girl who watched TV on a Sunday night as Tinkerbell flew around the steeple, she continued, adding a sympathetic reference to her youth. I’m moving to Hollywood to pursue a career as an actor, and I’ll be driving a Mustang. The fact that among a group of women who are all the greatest, I am acknowledged as one of the finest in my industry. And to top it off, this year has seen a ton of fantastic television! And my small first performance, for what it is worth? I received a Golden Ticket.
