Often maligned as a genre of music that is supportive of anti-social behavior, famed rapper Lil Wayne gave a sincere thank you to Veterans on Saturday Night Live (SNL) , Saturday, November 10, 2018. After performing “Can’t Be Broken” from his album Tha Carter V with special musical guest Halsey, the artist whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., gave a sincere shout-out to Veterans just ahead of the holiday, on Sunday, November 11. The observed Veterans Day holiday was celebrated Monday, November 12, 2018.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, President Woodrow Wilson declared November 11, 1919 as Armistice Day, the very first celebration of what would be later called Veterans Day. A law approved May 13, 1938 made the 11th of November each a year a legal holiday. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a veteran in his own right (Five-Star General, Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe), approved a law formally establishing November 11th as a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

This year (2018) marks the 100th anniversary of the celebration of Veterans Day (formerly Armistice Day). It is important that all Americans support Veterans not just on November 11th, but each time we encounter vets. Whether your action, a “thank you” to a vet, a donation to veteran causes, buying a meal for a Veteran/Soldier, we at PHAME-US joins you! Thank you to all the Veterans for your patriotism, your duty to country, and your willingness to serve our Nation! God Bless You! Happy Veterans Day!
