Be understanding

Understanding is thought of as having insight and good judgment. Another form of understanding is related to being aware of and showing consideration to – other people’s feelings. One develops these forms of understanding by acquiring knowledge through learning processes, communication, perception, logic and lived experiences. A person may work to develop understanding for personal progress as well as the progress of the community, city, state, and nation. Some may use understanding towards negative purposes that may seek to divide people and harm individuals. It is important to remember:
- It is not possible to succeed in the modern world without education and the power of gaining knowledge.
- It is important to adopt a positive mindset to become a constant learner.
- Gaining knowledge through experiences is a constant process and is useful every single day.
- Applying knowledge sharpens our skills like reasoning and problem-solving to develop wisdom.
- Listening, empathizing, and working to learn other’s perspectives cultivates community.
To work in improving one’s understanding, one must always be open to accepting knowledge or information. Reading articles, magazines, newspaper – watching educational videos, documentaries – enjoying cultural experiences, etc.; allows for learning opportunities to develop our understanding. Sharing pains, problems, perspectives, and purpose is important for developing one another. Through sharing, we get new facts, ideas, and experiences that help shape our understanding, our empathy for others, and our ability work towards a greater good.
